What is a School Development Plan?

A School Development Plan highlights the main priorities for the school. There are clear objectives, actions to be taken, costings, success criteria and identification of whose responsibility each area will be. Throughout the year, the work is integrated carefully into the long term plan and there are regular review meetings to check on progress towards the targets.

Who decides what objectives go on the School Development Plan?

The plan is put together by the Senior Leadership Team, taking into account the views of the all curriculum leaders, staff and governors. It is a working document to ensure that our school continues to build on its high standards and to provide an outstanding education for all children. A huge number of strategies are in place to ensure we have a clear self-evaluation, including: 

• focused review and evaluation of the previous year 
• analysis of results and data monitoring, 
• lessons observations and audit of children’s work 
• careful consultation with staff, Governors and the Local Authority regular feedback from the children and parents
• government statutory criteria and non-statutory guidance

We then make sure that the areas for improvement have very clear objectives and timescales so that there is quick and visible improvement. 

How is the plan monitored and reviewed?

The Headteacher regularly updates the plan with review of any work that has gone on and the impact this has had. This happens at least half termly. Other staff review their focus areas and the Governors review progress every term. 

All teachers use training days to thoroughly evaluate the objectives and to work together, including with external training providers, to make sure the plan is realised.
