Welcome!

Welcome to Pollington-Balne Church of England Primary School.

I feel privileged to be working with hardworking enthusiastic pupils and dedicated staff, who are eager to achieve in everything that we do.

Although academic success is important to us, we are passionate in our endeavours to develop the whole child, and support pupils’ emotional and social development. We provide a well-rounded education for our pupils, with opportunities for all children to shine and promote our strong values of teamwork, respect and inclusivity though our Christian ethos. We strongly believe ‘each person is utterly precious’. Our mission is as easy as ABC:

· Achieving and Aspiration – a school in which children aspire to achieve their personal potential.

· Belonging and Becoming – a place in which strong roots enable each individual to flourish

· Care and Community – a school that is from and for the community.

'The school prioritises pupils’ personal development. The Christian ethos underpins the values upheld by the school. Pupils learn about compassion, respect and forgiveness through the curriculum and assemblies'. (Ofsted, 2024). 'The Christian vision is at the heart of school life. It is widely understood and supports pupils and adults to flourish in their personal development and learning. The school is a community where people are known and valued as individuals. This drives a culture of acceptance, friendship, care and mutual support, where people feel they belong'. (SIAMS, 2025).

We work closely with the on-site Preschool, and local secondary schools to ensure smooth transition for pupils, and through the Parent Teacher Association, work hard to involve families in their children’s learning.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you find the information you are looking for. Please feel free to contact the school directly with any queries you may have.

The school has federated with Cowick Primary School, which is situated 4.6 miles from Pollington-Balne Primary School, sharing an Executive Headteacher and working closely with its sister school for the mutual benefit of all pupils.

Pupils are offered a wide range of opportunities, from sports with our Technika sports coach, Jak, Creative Outdoor Learning Activities (COLA) with our Forest School's Leader 'ExpLaura' and Whole Class Ensemble and Music for Wellbeing delivered by the East Riding of Yorkshire Music Service.

We highly value our parents and carers and see them as equal partners in their child’s education.

We hope that we have excited your curiosity to see our school and welcome visits from prospective parents/carers.

If you require a paper copy of anything on our website or a version in braille, please contact the admin team. I look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful school. Welcome from the Chair of Governors

As the Chair of Governors of the Federation of Cowick and Pollington-Balne Primary Schools and on behalf of the governing body, I have great pleasure in extending a warm welcome from our small, friendly village school. As a place where we strive to encourage all our pupils to ‘be the best that they can be’, it is the role of the governing body at Pollington-Balne Primary school to support the vision of the headteacher and teaching team by ensuring that children’s aspirations are fostered and supported through inspirational educational experiences.

As a governing body, we are not here to get involved with the day to day running of our school however, we are passionate about providing strategic direction and accountability through a ‘critical friend’ approach of processes and practices, including aspects of finance. In doing so, we can reflect upon and ‘champion’ our executive headteacher and Heads of School  to implement improvement plans, through regular interactions in support of reaching ultimate learning experiences for our children which will serve them throughout their lives.

We have an active and dedicated governing body, all of whom have a wealth of skills and experience in  areas such as (but not limited to)  IT, Health and Safety, finance, HR, Early Years, primary and secondary education. As a church school, our appointed diocese governors also help support and develop the social, moral and Christian outcomes of the school community.

If you would like to know more about becoming a governor or provide further feedback and would like to contact us, then we would be happy to hear from you.

Kind Regards

On behalf of The Federation of Cowick and Pollington-Balne Primary Schools Governors,

Chair of Governors,

Kay Ray
