Our Class Structure & Allocation
At Pollington-Balne CE Primary School, we are committed to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive. With a Planned Admission Number (PAN) of 20, our year groups are small, and as such, classes are often made up of mixed-age groups.
To manage this effectively, children are grouped primarily by age. Each year, we review the make-up of the school and form classes based on the ages and numbers of children in each cohort. This means the class splits can vary from year to year, and may result in different combinations of year groups across the school.
For example, one year we may have a mixed Reception and Year 1 class, while another year might see a Year 1 and Year 2 class together. These changes are entirely normal and reflect the flexible nature of small school settings like ours.
In line with government legislation, we ensure that infant classes (Reception, Year 1, and Year 2) do not exceed 30 pupils per teacher.
All class groupings are carefully considered to support the academic progress, social development, and well-being of all children. Given the complexity of this process, and our commitment to fairness and consistency, we must kindly state that requests or complaints about class allocation will not be considered.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we strive to provide the very best for every child in our care.
