We have had such a busy month. We have celebrated many sporting achievements in our celebration assemblies including athletics. Each child has been able to say what their favourite part of the competition was and how they contributed to Team Pollington. I have had the privilege of working with our Mini Police. They have taken part in two workshops where they have discussed issues including: antisocial behaviour and racism. In school we held an Anti-Bullying week. The theme this year was choose respect. Our aims were to raise awareness of children and young people who experience bullying, while also striving to tackle and prevent it. The children and staff wore odd socks to represent and talk about what makes us individuals. Over the past weeks each child has contributed to the making of a class banner to show one element of the Nativity. These are now hanging proudly in the school hall and mark the start of our Christmas celebrations here at Pollington-Balne.
Remembrance Day
We are very proud of all our Children who helped to clean and sweep leaves up in preperation for the Remembrance Day Service and attended the memorial garden on Sunday. They were a credit to our school and community. A big thank you to all the parents that attended with their children to support us.
Reverand Peter Warren came to school on Monday 11th November to lead our Worship in School. A 2 minute silence was respected where we remebered all the brave men and women who gave their lives for us. Children have been reflective and made class wreaths, poems and prayers.

Mini Police
The Mini - Police Initiative has got well underway. Those children taking part have talked animatedly about their learning so far, and we are looking forward to them informing the wider school of their learning.
Oak Class
We have loved reading 'The Owl Babies' in Oak Class. The children have enjoyed joining in with the refrain "I want my mummy!" said Bill.
Oak class have been finding out about other nocturnal animals and what they eat. Using this information they have planned and written their own story. I'm pleased to say that the Fox Mummy, Badger Mummy and Bat Mummy came back with food for their babies!.
We are also learning how we have grown and changed from a baby, to a toddler and now a child.
Ash Class
Ash class began their new RE topic, 'Incarnation: why does Christmas matter to Christians?'
We have been thinking about welcoming a special baby into our lives and looking at some familiar Christian symbols to find out what they represent to Christians.
Computing
Ash Class have also been developing their Computing skills this term. The children have practised using the keyboard to type and the track pad to draw. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this unit and also enjoyed printed these off. Next term the children will be Creating Media in the form of Digital painting.
Maple Class
We've been enjoying 'George's Marvellous Medicine. The children have written repost and created instructions to create their own marvellous medicines.
We have been learning about erosion in Science and enjoyed exploring the school grounds, looking for signs of erosion.
Willow Class
Willow Class have been investigating which type of chocolate will melt the fastest and why linking to our work on States of Matter.
Birch Class
What a busy November it has been for Birch Class! We all had the opportunity to take part in Bikeability, the instructors commenting on how well-mannered and team - spirited each group was!
We have created some beautiful pieces of Remembrance art - as seen on Dojo - and contributed to the Remembrance Service held by Reverend Warren. The children who took part, read clearly and fluently to the congregation. We had a number of our class members taking part in the Act of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday, held at the Memorial Garden between Great Heck and Pollington.
We have also have various sporting competitions, most recently Athletics at Snaith Sports Hall. The team of year five and six children were fabulous ambassadors for the school and we came away in second position overall, with a number of first places within the competition - well done team!
Currently we are looking towards Christmas. Rehearsals are well underway for our Christmas Carol Service - one not to be missed! (Miss Habbishaw has already used her 'conductors signals'!) and we are continue to deepen our understanding of Incarnation.
Please keep a look out for our finished banner pictures on Dojo - it is looking rather good and every member of Birch Class has had a hand in creating our part of the Christmas story!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Mini Police: How smart all your children look in uniform.
Remembrance Day: What a credit to your school. The children looked very smart and are so well behaved, it is a pleasure to work with them.
Bikeabiltiy: What well mannered children with great team spirits.
Flu Nurses: We can't believe that all your children know their addresses, we have found that this is not the case in many schools. They have all been exceptional today and has been a pleasure to come in.

The PTA have secured £500.00 from Drax for Library books in school. These have already been ordered by class teachers and have arrived in school this week and are now in the class libraries. We would like to especially thank Drax Global for funding our library and the PTA for their support.
PTA Auction

The overwhelming amount the PTA have raised from their recent auction! A hugh thank you goes out to everyone who has been involved in organising this event, who purchased, and to the local companies and community that donated the lots to support our school.
Messages have been sent to all the winners with a payment link, if you haven’t received one please drop the PTA a message. The PTA have requested that payments are made by Sunday 1st December, which will be much appreciated so they can distribute all the items as soon as possible.
We have given the PTA a “wish list” of equipment and resouces to support our school development plan's curriculum focus. The PTA are hoping to be able to get some of these items in place for the new term in January 2025.
Thank you for supporting the Pollington PTA and the school, it is really appreciated.

Communication with school and staff
Please take note of the yellow marked lines and notices outside school and don't park in these at the stipulated times. The swimming bus has had extreme difficulty parking and off loading children safely. On a few occasions we have had to turn the coach round in Pollington which is not an easy task, as we have not been able to park on our first attempt. We are aware that parking is difficult and thank you for your support.
As the weather turns colder please can you remember to send your child with appropriate outerwear, coats, hat and gloves. As a school we are out learning and playing in all but the worst weather!
We continue to use Class Dojo as our main means of communication with you to share exciting news and updates. Sports
Congratulations to our Bench Ball team who played some amazing games and enjoyed every minute. Special congratulations to Imogen who received a special medal for her growing confidence.
A fantastic whole team performance from Year3/4 athletics, finishing in an incredible second place - just missing out on 1st place by 2 points!
Thank you to all the parents who have been transporting their children to and from the events, it is greatly appreciated and these events would not be possible without your support.
Athletics again with year 5 and 6 coming in second position overall, with a number of first places within the competition.
Our amazing girls team attended the East Riding and Humber Girls Football competition and came an incredible third place! A big thank you also goes to their support team in year 5 and 6 who made them work for it in practice sessions.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council continues to offer children and young people in receipt of benefit related Free School Meals the opportunity to enjoy a range of fun activities as part of a national scheme during the Christmas holidays. Please see attached more information. The booking site is now open with places allocated on a first come first served basis.

Children are eligible to receive FSM from Reception Class and is NOT Universal free school meals which every child in EYFS and KS1 are entitled to.

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
Your child may also get free school meals if you get any of these benefits and your child is both:
- younger than the compulsory age for starting school
- in full-time education
If your child is eligible for free school meals, they’ll remain eligible until they finish the phase of schooling (primary or secondary) they’re in on 31 March 2022.

Snaith Christmas Market - Saturday 7th December 4.30pm
Christmas Carol Concert
A Carol Concert by Castleford Salvation Army Band and Singers will take place at Pollington Village Hall at 6.00pm on Saturday 14th December. Entry is £5.00 on the door and includes a hot drink and a mince pie. There will also be a raffle with all proceeds going to the Village Hall funds. This is a popular annual village event supported by the Parish Council. Everyone will be made welcome.
